Category: Website updates
Since I started this project I've been asked a few times if I had a blog for following the project. I never got around to making one since I didn't just want a blog with a basic template so I knew it would take a lot of time to make one myself. Meanwhile I did keep track of everything on forums, for the Dutch and Belgians on China Quad and for everyone else in English on DIY Electric Car. This is also where I referred everyone to to follow the project.
But now we're a bit further ahead I notice that it's pretty hard on forums to look back at everything and have a good overview of all the information of the whole project. The ones who've been following the project since the beginning will have less trouble with this but for new followers it can ofcourse get very hard to find the information they're looking for between all of the posts. I like looking back at what I've done myself and thought it was pretty hard as well. And so I still decided to sacrifice some time and make my own blog. Been working on it for around 3-4 weeks since I made everything (except for the picture gallery, but heavily modified) myself. But the website is finally done now.
All updates of the project will now be posted here in Dutch and English. Everything I've done since the beginning of the project has already been placed in the blog so this can all easily be read back again. All of the information, pictures and videos are now also easy to find back. Ofcourse I'll also still keep posting the updates on the forums as I always have. But you can now come here to find everything in a clear overview and also to follow the project. This can be done by subscribing for the newsletter. And to move with the times I also made a Facebook page and a Twitter account where you can follow the updates.
I'll probably continue again with the project within a week so there'll be some updates coming again. Was about time really, the project's unfortunately been on hold for a long time. But very soon there'll finally be some progress again.

Unfortunately not much has happened with the quad bike project these past few weeks. For a few weeks I've been busy with a woodworking project and for the rest I also didn't really have much time.
But here's a small update. I'm planning to continue again with the project soon. Because of the woodworking project the quad bike got covered in a layer of dust. So I washed it completely for the first time, the white frame is shining nicely again.
Also bought a quad bike cover so this at least won't happen again. Fits perfectly now, hopefully still does when the fenders and mirrors are on.
For the rest not much news just yet. Will hopefully change soon once I get some more time again. I'm really looking forward to continue with this project again.

The clamps are now all attached to the battery boxes. Was pretty exciting, didn't want to make any mistakes now I'm this far with the battery boxes.
First I marked where the holes should come exactly.
Drilled holes through the battery box and the clamps so the holes would be perfectly aligned.
Made the holes on the clamps a little bigger and countersunk for the rivet nuts.
Rivet nuts in. Did I already tell how great I think these things are?
Bolts in, it all fits well and is firmly attached. The batteries won't be going anywhere.
But ofcourse I won't leave any metal so close to the batteries, so rubber caps go on there. This also makes the rivet nuts waterproof.
Here from the outside. Only had to move the fastening holes a bit where the pieces for the cable glands are. For the rest it's 2 batteries for each bolt everywhere.
Unfortunately I had to deviate a bit from the drawings. In the smaller battery boxes I could only use 1 bolt to attach the clamps (but again 1 bolt for each 2 batteries). Otherwise it wouldn't be possible to firmly attach the cover since I want to use 2 bolts on each clamp for that (4 in the bigger battery boxes). It's sturdy enough anyway, especially when the cover still gets attached to them.
Total picture, the clamps are attached everywhere now.
Next step, attaching the covers. Will be done the same way with rivet nuts. But I don't know if I have time for it again this week. Otherwise probably next weekend.

Today I made the clamps for the 2 bigger battery boxes. I had to make openings in these for the cables to pass through. Unfortunately my router bit broke so I just did this with a small saw and filed it a bit. Doesn't look as nice as it could have but these won't be visible anymore anyway once the battery boxes are closed.
Don't think I'll have much time this week though so I'll probably continue next weekend.
