Blog / Website updates
After a long time the website has been upgraded again. Desktop and laptop users won't notice much difference but for tablet and smartphone users the website will look a lot different now. Zooming and scrolling horizontally won't be needed anymore, all information will be adjusted to the screen that's being used by you. Or to sum it all up, a responsive design is being used now.
This design I actually wanted to use at the beginning of the website already but since I rather spent my free time on the project back then instead of on the website it just didn't happen. Since the project has been completed now I finally had some extra time so I still chose to change the design of the website. I noticed that even with the old design there were still a lot of mobile users visiting this site. Ofcourse I couldn't ignore this, now with this new design it really is a lot easier for the mobile users.
There's nothing wrong with the desktop/laptop version, so no changes there. But since it is a pretty big upgrade I did place 3 new images in the banner which are a bit more recent as to make it look a bit nicer again.
Soon there'll be some updates of the quad bike again, the weather wasn't really coöperative these last few days. But I have been able to do a few rides again and I was also finally able to collect some data on the road.
Made some improvements to the website. Was planning to do this earlier but since I wanted to have the website online as quickly as possible I put these things on hold. These are the things that were improved.
- New picture gallery. It looks the same but it works very differently. The old picture gallery was quite slow when scrolling through the pages and I couldn't really find a good alternative. So I made my own, needs way less code and works at least 5 times as fast. The quality of the thumbnails is a lot better as well.
- Thumbnails next to the titles of all posts are actually thumbnails now. Before these were just resized. Loading times are much improved in quick view because of this. I also made these thumbnails as links to the related posts.
- It's now possible to enlarge the images on all pages, not just in the picture gallery.
- Fixed a few small bugs.
Since I started this project I've been asked a few times if I had a blog for following the project. I never got around to making one since I didn't just want a blog with a basic template so I knew it would take a lot of time to make one myself. Meanwhile I did keep track of everything on forums, for the Dutch and Belgians on China Quad and for everyone else in English on DIY Electric Car. This is also where I referred everyone to to follow the project.
But now we're a bit further ahead I notice that it's pretty hard on forums to look back at everything and have a good overview of all the information of the whole project. The ones who've been following the project since the beginning will have less trouble with this but for new followers it can ofcourse get very hard to find the information they're looking for between all of the posts. I like looking back at what I've done myself and thought it was pretty hard as well. And so I still decided to sacrifice some time and make my own blog. Been working on it for around 3-4 weeks since I made everything (except for the picture gallery, but heavily modified) myself. But the website is finally done now.
All updates of the project will now be posted here in Dutch and English. Everything I've done since the beginning of the project has already been placed in the blog so this can all easily be read back again. All of the information, pictures and videos are now also easy to find back. Ofcourse I'll also still keep posting the updates on the forums as I always have. But you can now come here to find everything in a clear overview and also to follow the project. This can be done by subscribing for the newsletter. And to move with the times I also made a Facebook page and a Twitter account where you can follow the updates.
I'll probably continue again with the project within a week so there'll be some updates coming again. Was about time really, the project's unfortunately been on hold for a long time. But very soon there'll finally be some progress again.
